Building off of a historic economic event, our nation is making large steps to invest in our infrastructure. Just like in 2009 with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, developers and owners are preparing for a large amount of construction post-COVID. To follow through with these plans, owners will look for qualified design-builders to deliver innovative and resilient projects on time and within budget. America needs Design-Build Companies to effectively build infrastructure-based projects with cost and time in mind.
America’s infrastructure has problems, Design-Build is the solution.
America’s infrastructure is behind on the times. Even local engineers are citing challenges with the current state of American infrastructure, here in Denver, Colorado. Despite huge interest in new construction for multifamily housing and commercial buildings that would contribute to the surrounding areas’ infrastructure – Denver has many concerns to address the increasing demand for its resources.
Following the American Society of Civil Engineers, a report card for America’s Infrastructure was recently published establishing that the overall grade across the nation only reached a C-. Citing issues such as, “a water main break every two minutes”, and there is “growing wear and tear on our nation’s roads”. Many more aspects of our country’s transportation, resources, and structure are seeing the extended need for improvements. However, improvements for such large-scale commercial construction and federal projects are costly and lengthy in time. Conventional construction project management seems to be a disadvantage for such endeavors.
Research shows design-build will deliver nearly half of all construction dollars this year and is the best-performing delivery system for both schedule and cost. The Design-Build Institute of America states that cities, neighborhoods, and homes alike will benefit greatly from design-build operations. As the cost-effectiveness of construction and management for large-scale projects that focus on infrastructure improvements, commercial construction, multifamily construction, and more all will improve the failing grade America has plaguing its cities. There is hope that the rise in construction and development following 2020 will spark a revolutionary movement towards rebuilding infrastructure, improving public services, and providing jobs. Design-build methods offer a stable and constructive method that can be applied to projects of any size, scale, and scope.
Design-Build is cost-effective and can help with growing interest in construction.
As noted by the Design-Build Institute of America, there will be a wave of unprecedented interest in construction as the nation recovers from the recent pandemic of 2020. Arguably, the first wave has already hit and is pushing its momentum along with current events. Demand for new construction and residential construction has already seen an enormous amount. The results have even strained supply chains and materials as builders and owners are just now beginning to receive respite from inflated prices.
Even local civil engineers are citing obvious challenges with current American infrastructure here in Denver. Despite huge interest in new construction for multifamily housing and commercial buildings – Denver has many concerns to address the increasing demand on city resources. Research shows design-build will deliver nearly half of all construction dollars this year and is the best-performing delivery system for both schedule and cost. Many agencies used design-build after the passage of the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to deliver vital infrastructure projects on-time and on-budget under tight timelines and a mission to provide economic recovery quickly to communities. Design-build teams are ready to go to work again this year, delivering successful infrastructure investment projects nationwide.
