Denver is taking significant steps to improve pedestrian safety and walkability along Quebec Street near Colfax Avenue. A new $3.9 million project funded by the 2017 voter-approved Elevate Denver initiative will add sidewalks along a 0.75-mile stretch from 12th Avenue to Montview Boulevard. This development not only enhances safety but also aligns with the broader trend of upgrading neighborhoods for better living standards—both inside and outside the home.
Transforming Streets for Safer Neighborhoods
The project, which includes sidewalk construction and a traffic signal upgrade at 17th Avenue, addresses a long-standing need for safer pedestrian pathways. Construction will require full weekday closures in phases to accelerate the timeline:
- Dec. 2 to Dec. 20: 13th Ave to Colfax Ave
- Jan. 2 to Feb. 17: Colfax Ave to 17th Ave
- Feb. 18 to April 3: 17th Ave to Montview Blvd
The closures aim to make construction safer for both workers and pedestrians, while detours redirect traffic to Syracuse Street and Monaco Parkway. Though initially planned to include sidewalks on 17th Avenue, budget limitations postponed that aspect for future funding.
Enhancing Homes Alongside Infrastructure
As infrastructure projects like this reshape neighborhoods, local companies such as Sustainable Design Build (SDB) are complementing these efforts by creating modern, functional, and beautiful living spaces. Specializing in custom home construction and home additions, SDB is helping homeowners in Denver adapt to their changing communities.
For residents near Quebec Street, improvements like new sidewalks can increase property values and make the area more appealing for families and professionals. SDB is proud to work alongside this growth by building custom spaces tailored to meet the needs of Denver’s evolving population. From accessory dwelling units (ADUs) to whole-home remodels, their designs enhance not just individual homes but the overall character of the neighborhood.
Building a Walkable, Livable Future
The Quebec Street project is part of a larger vision for Denver: creating walkable, accessible neighborhoods that benefit both residents and businesses. Sustainable Design Build sees these developments as opportunities to invest in the community, ensuring homes reflect the same modernity and care as the surrounding streetscape.
“Projects like these not only improve safety but also elevate the quality of life for everyone in the area,” an SDB representative said. “We’re thrilled to see Denver’s neighborhoods flourish and are excited to help residents make the most of their homes in such dynamic environments.”
As construction wraps up in the spring of 2024 and new sidewalk fees kick in to fund future projects, both infrastructure and home design are setting the stage for a more sustainable and connected Denver. With partners like Sustainable Design Build contributing to the city’s growth, the future of neighborhoods like those along Quebec Street looks brighter than ever.
