Sustainable Design Build Celebrates Patrick Surtain II’s Defensive Player of the Year Award Super Bowl LIX

At Sustainable Design Build, we know that success—whether in construction or on the football field—comes from dedication, precision, and a relentless drive to be the best. That’s why we’re thrilled to celebrate Denver Broncos star Patrick Surtain II, who has officially cemented his place among the greats by winning the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year Award. This achievement not only highlights Surtain’s elite skill but also his unwavering work ethic—values we admire both in our industry and in the game.

A Historic Achievement for Denver

On Thursday night at the NFL Honors awards show, Surtain became just the second player in Broncos history to receive the prestigious Defensive Player of the Year award, joining Hall of Famer Randy Gradishar (1978). For a cornerback to win this honor is rare—most often, the award goes to edge rushers or linebackers who fill up the stat sheet. But Surtain’s lockdown ability and game-changing performances made him impossible to overlook.

“This is special to me, and I know it’s special to Broncos Country,” Surtain said. “I was nervous because I didn’t know what to expect, but when they called my name, I let out a deep breath. It was a very gratifying feeling. I’m truly thankful and humbled.”

What made the moment even more meaningful was the setting—New Orleans, the city where his parents were raised. Receiving this honor in front of family and loved ones only added to the significance.

“Coming back here, having so many aunties and cousins here, it means a lot,” Surtain shared. “I’m happy to represent the city and make them proud.”

Surtain’s Impact on the Broncos’ Resurgence

Surtain played a pivotal role in Denver’s turnaround season, helping snap a seven-year playoff drought and reestablish the Broncos as contenders. His 45 tackles, four interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), and league-leading 132 interception return yards made a huge difference in tight games. He received 26 first-place votes, finishing well ahead of Trey Hendrickson, Myles Garrett, T.J. Watt, and Zack Baun.

“To win as a corner, it’s different. It doesn’t happen very often. It shows you how special he is,” said Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton, who attended the event as Denver’s Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee.

While individual awards are an incredible milestone, Surtain’s focus remains on team success. He takes pride in seeing his teammates shine, with Nik Bonitto and Zach Allen also earning All-Pro nods. But the next step is clear—competing for a championship.

Eyes on Super Bowl LIX and Beyond

As football fans gear up for Super Bowl LIX this Sunday, Surtain is more motivated than ever. Now that he’s won the league’s top defensive honor, his goal is clear: helping the Broncos reach the Super Bowl.

“This definitely feeds the hunger,” he said. “That’s the next big achievement, getting to a Super Bowl. I want to reach that point where I have a chance to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.”

While two teams prepare to battle for a title this weekend, the Broncos are building toward something big—and with leaders like Surtain at the helm, Denver’s future looks brighter than ever.
